Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about RecipeCompiler.

Questions

What is RecipeCompiler?

RecipeCompiler turns recipe webpages into structured, engineer-grade specifications. You paste a recipe URL and receive ingredients, quantities, units, and instructions organized into a specification grid.

How does RecipeCompiler work?

Paste a recipe URL (or the recipe text) into the compiler on the homepage, confirm you have the rights to the content, and click 'compile to spec.' RecipeCompiler fetches the page, extracts the recipe content, and uses an AI model to structure it into a specification with ingredients, instructions, servings, timing, equipment, and automatic allergen and food safety analysis.

How much does RecipeCompiler cost?

You get 10 free compiles with no account required. RecipeCompiler is free for 10 compiles. The Starter plan is $2.99/month for 30 compiles, and the Pro plan is $4.99/month (or $39/year) for unlimited compiles.

Why is the recipe laid out like a grid instead of a normal recipe page?

The grid layout takes its cue from Michael Chu's Cooking for Engineers (cookingforengineers.com), which pioneered the recipe-table format back in 2004 — ingredients as rows, steps as columns, so you can scan the whole recipe without scrolling back and forth. RecipeCompiler applies that same structural idea to any recipe you paste in. Read the full story on our blog.

What is the browser extension, and which browsers are supported?

The RecipeCompiler browser extension lets you compile recipes directly from the page you're browsing, without copying and pasting URLs — it transforms the recipe in-place. It supports Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Firefox; RecipeCompiler for Safari is also available as a native app on the Mac App Store.

Can I use RecipeCompiler on mobile?

Yes. The RecipeCompiler web app is fully responsive and works on mobile browsers. The homepage compile tool adapts to mobile screens.

Can I cancel a subscription?

Yes. Subscriptions can be canceled at any time. After cancellation, your plan reverts to the free tier at the end of the billing cycle.
